We are grateful to churches in the Sandwich Deanery who have agreed to carry this item on their parish websites.
Do you know of a community project that could do with a little financial help?
Church in Society (CiS) began life in October 1993 with the charitable objectives of supporting the social welfare and well-being of people, voluntary / self-help groups, and organisations within the Sandwich Deanery of the Church of England.
The managing trustees have the power to consider and award small grants that meet social and environmental needs within the Sandwich Deanery (Deal, Walmer & Sandwich area including the villages).
Grant applications will be considered for capital projects and running costs for organisations with charitable status upon receipt of a small grant application form and a copy of audited / independently examined accounts for the last tax year. However, occasionally, applications can also be considered from individuals and groups or societies which do not have charitable status nor the turnover to warrant yearly examined accounts.
In the past grants awarded have ranged from £100 to £1000. In recent years CiS has supported well established charities such as the Phoenix Centre Sandwich, Sandwich Age Concern, a Women’s Refuge and Porchlight, while in 2021 we have helped Dover Outreach Centre (Sunrise Café), Eastry CEP (Forest School project), Eastry Young Peoples’ Club (organic garden), St Leonard’s Friendship Lunch and St Richard’s Community café, Sandown School Young Carers and United Families UK.
CiS has added its name to the Dover District Council Community Directory, a web site presence is imminent and contact details will be advertised in the local free press.
As community leaders or concerned parishioners, you may be aware of local organisations that provide support for young people and needy families but who lack resources. The Trustees are asking you to suggest names and contact details of such groups which provide support to families, especially during the pandemic and its aftermath.
If we can help, please contact me directly in the first instance and complete a small grant application form as a second step if advised to do so.
